Essay References Is the Most Important Part of Your Essay

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Learn to write them in the better way than the rest of your classmates

Essay references are the most important part of your essay as it explains many things that remain unexplained. It is a tedious and troublesome task if you don’t understand the basics of writing references. Remember to use credible and authenticated references while writing. This is the last section of your essay and also plays a major role in achieving a better essay. These references will help your readers understand your concept better and keep track of your bibliography and give you more credit points for your essay. There are handbooks and websites dedicated to explaining the correct methods of referencing and we will only address the key guidelines you must apply in the process.

There are various types of formats in which a paper could written in like APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, etc. Out of these only the Harvard and MLA formats are often used. Science department will generally use the APA format and the humanities department and other such departments will use the MLA format paper. Essay references are a lengthy process and they are time consuming. The reason why I told about the format styles is because each type has a different positioning for the references sometimes it is in the end and sometimes it is like footnotes or head notes.

The references will be given in two forms, (i) if you are following the Harvard style then the references will be as a list in the end, and (ii) if you are following the oxford style then the references must be stated as a sequence of footnotes. If you are writing your references in the end it can be written in the form of a reference list or a bibliography. A bibliography deals with the details of a particular subject matter. Bibliographies can be compiled as a book itself, whereas a reference list only compiles those data which are mentioned in the text without giving any external references.

Generally, in essay references, reference list means a set of footnotes which will allow the reader to follow up in the same page instead of searching for it in the last page or so. It will comply of all the important details about the particular subject cited from the author’s name to the source of the citation. If you need to use footnotes, information about the Harvard system should be available in the course outline in your subject. The last section outlined how to cite a paper or reference sources within the text. This section shows how to complete the reference section at the end of the essay.

Now that you have learned all that is supposed to be there in the essay references, you need to know a few more things about it. Every thing that can be discussed from journal articles to books and classics follow a different type or style of quoting or listing references. Using the handbooks and several websites will give you a wider scope of looking for references. So remember that the better your references are the more points your teacher will award you.

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Among different types of research paper topics, choose the one you prefer

Choosing the right research paper topics is the first step in writing an effective research paper. The topic of the paper will show what the paper contains. It is the first and most important part of the paper. The right topic for your research paper could also get you an A+ or even better.

Choose those kinds of research paper topics in which you have an interest in. Anything that is done uninterested will not be a successful one. Make your topic sound good, it will attract the attention from the reader or in your case your evaluator. Consult your topic with your professor then proceed with your research work, this will develop and interest in his or her mind. Here are some examples for successful research paper topics.

* Argumentative research paper: The topic of an argumentative research paper must be a matter of debate in the past and also in the present. Choose an issue which has been troubling your heart. 1. Same sex marriage

2. Child abuse

Both the APA and MLA formats of papers require you to give a topic for your paper. It is the essence of your paper. The right topic could be the first right step in your path of presenting an effective research paper. Your interest in the topic is very important so it is better that you choose it for yourself. Only if you are interested you will be able to do your job happily and will have a job satisfaction.

Selecting a good topic for your paper is like searching a name for your child. The more apt the topic the more marks you will get. Wake your creative mind and find a nice topic even for the most boring subjects. A lot of aspects in your paper depend on your topic, so make sure it is the right one at the right place. So show them you are capable for an A+ by impressing them right from the start. Make use of the net to search your research paper topics.

The Basic Know-How on “How to Cite a Paper”

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Cite your paper and earn more toffee points from your readers

Citing in a paper means quoting information in it that can be useful for the reader to understand your paper better. This can be done easily by following a few rules that will help you to learn how to cite a paper. This enhances the attractiveness of your paper. If the citations are made in main script of your paper itself then it is called text citations, the citations can be made in the end or even in the backside your paper.

It is important to use citations in your paper so that the reader finds it informative and does not have to look anywhere else for their reference. Even if they need any more information they can always look up the references you have cited. As mentioned earlier there are a few rules to be understood to learn how to cite a paper, they are:

Paraphrase another person’s works or ideas:

Paraphrasing means expressing the content or the basic idea of a piece of work in your own words. This will enable your reader to understand your concept better. But while paraphrasing you have to keep it in your mind that it must be in a simple understandable format.

Use a direct quotation (cite the original source):

If you are directly quoting someone’s work then you must mention the authors name and also the source, For example: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by,” (Frost R. The Road Not Taken)

Collect and use the correct information:

If the quote or reference which you have given is irrelevant to the topic then it creates an impression on the reader that you are not aware of the correct topic or don’t have sufficient knowledge.

Give a list of listed references:

If you are making the references at the end or back of the paper then make it look like a list and not like another paragraph.

The citations must not waver from the topic:

The citations you make must be relevant to the topic. You must not do it in such a way that initially you are speaking about science and suddenly jump into geography. This will show the reader that you know your job.

The above mentioned rules will enable you to understand how to cite a paper. The use of the name of the author whose quote you are using is also very important. If the author’s name is known then make a mention of his last name alone with his initial and if you don’t know the author’s name but the topic of the source is known then mention it inside quotations (” “), if the quote has multiple authors or citations, separate each of it with a semicolon (;), and if you are using any page number or line number from an author’s book then it must appear only inside parentheses.

Now that you have learnt how to cite a paper, I hope they will improve your paper’s quality and also gain you the appreciation you deserve from your peers as well as your superiors including your instructors.

History Coursework – A Tribute to The Past!

How to do a History Coursework?

The human mind is very inquisitive. We always demand answers for every question that is being asked. We are rather curious to know what happened before our period. There are a lot of questions to which people are still trying to dig up the right answers. Many things that happened in the past still remain a mystery. The rest is called history! We have compiled the known facts about the past and made it a subject called history. In is important for one to know about one’s ancestors. History consists of a series of events that happened, the people involved, the culture and religion followed during that time and so on. It is very interesting to read about what our ancestors did, about what led to whatever we are now, who were responsible for the changes that were brought in and so on. Some of us can even relate ourselves to that particular period and imagine what we would have done, given that situation. So, history is an interesting and important subject that is made a part of the curriculum for students. They are expected to do a history coursework that will be valued by their teachers and awarded some marks.

A coursework is any assignment that is given by the teachers to the students on a particular subject. The marks obtained by the students in the coursework will constitute around 20% of the total marks in the main exams. The first step for doing a coursework well is to develop in interest in it. Only when you create an interest and love for the subject, can you do it well. Doing any assignment well without any involvement at all, is of hardly any use. It may fetch you some marks. But it serves no purpose in the long run. Therefore try to develop the right interest and attitude for the subject. Then, you can consider half the job done! A Coursework is given in many subjects. For instance, we have physics coursework,  chemistry coursework, biology coursework, English coursework, French coursework, psychology coursework and so on. A history coursework comes in that order too.

A coursework in history needs a lot of attention to detail. You should be very specific while writing something. In history, if anything is very important at all, it is the time. You should be very careful while mentioning a year. There is a lot of difference between “1843” and “1834” or “1745” and “1845”! You can call it a small misplacement of digits, but it does a big damage to history! So, be very careful while mentioning the dates.

While giving a detailed account of an incident, stick to what happened. Ensure that you have mentioned only the facts. Do not invent incidents! Your teacher wouldn’t be too happy about it if you become too creative while doing history! It is always better to refer to an authentic source while doing the coursework as this is not a subject that you can write on your own. The language, the flow of writing could be in your style, but not the intended meaning. Always refer to an authentic source.

These are some of the tips to be follows while writing a history coursework.

Romeo and Juliet Coursework- The Most Mesmerizing Love Drama Evermore!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Work with the most interesting topic for a coursework!

Introduction

A Romeo and Juliet coursework is a coursework submitted by a student in a literature field. Like other course works this is also submitted as a part of assessments for getting extra credentials apart from the examination point of view.

Shakespeare- Romeo and Juliet

There is no one in the field of English literature who does not know the greatest English playwright of the 18th century William Shakespeare. He is the world’s greatest dramatist and writer who has written many plays that evolves around history, romance, tragedy, etc. the Romeo and Juliet play is one of his master pieces. There is also a rumor that this play was written after his love break-up and that is the reason for the play’s tragic ending!

How to write a Romeo and Juliet coursework?
Now this coursework is not like a chemistry coursework or physics coursework where you will be given a particular topic on which you have to write a coursework which will involve a deep analysis and your own research supported by proofs. This coursework is a topic that has been written as a play by one of the greatest people in the literature field. This coursework will include assignments that contain answers to the content-related questions, analysis over the language used in the play (it is the oldest English language that has been used in all the plays of Shakespeare and one that is difficult to interpret), the interpretations of the characters in the play, the style of writing of the author, etc. to do this assignment effectively, you should listen to the classes taken on Romeo and Juliet and read as many articles or supplements as possible. This will help you during the writing process of the Romeo and Juliet coursework.

You should remember that Romeo and Juliet is not a story book where each incident will be given in detail that will help the reader to imagine that situation. A play is not so, readers have to imagine the play on a stage to get an idea of what a real play is. To be able to imagine the play with vivid detail, the reader should not just read the dialogues of the characters but also the stage directions that are given along the play as they provide hints on how to interpret the characters dialogue. You can write a coursework on this also. Remember that the play is not just a work of art but one that is considered as a symbol of love and one from centuries ago.

The Romeo and Juliet coursework can contain your favorite quotations from the play or the famous quotations that is like by many people. To give the introduction to the coursework, you should know the time when Shakespeare wrote the play to determine if the were any influence on him to write the play and other details. All the course works relating to the Romeo and Juliet play should be a textual analysis as the assignment is related to a play already written by a person. Any quotations taken from the play should be written along with the act, scene and line number.

French Coursework- ‘Bonne Chance’ with your French Coursework!

Tips to Write a French Coursework

A coursework is that which students do as part of their assessment in examinations. Doing a coursework well means a lot of marks. Students are required to do a coursework in many subjects; for instance physics coursework, chemistry coursework, biology coursework, psychology coursework and so on. In that order, comes French coursework too. French is an interesting language. It is the language spoken in the world’s most romantic place, Paris, which is the capital of France. So, no wonder it’s a beautiful language! Before doing a coursework or an article or any work in French, you should admire the language. You must be able to appreciate the beauty of the language. Only when you are interested in the subject, you can do anything well, let alone a coursework!

French is a language that gets easier as you learn to get used to it. Doing a coursework in French is not difficult if you can master the grammar part. The very objective behind assigning you a coursework in French is primarily to ensure that you have learnt the grammar well, if you are clear with the ways to change the verbs and adjectives according the number and gender of the noun and so on. If you are not clear with it, do not hesitate to seek the guidance of your tutor; that’s what he is paid for! Before writing a French coursework, be sure of the basic relative pronouns. They are je, tu, il/elle, nous, vouz, ils/elles. At the basic level, you must be able to change the sentence according the noun. For instance, consider the following sentences.

  • •    Je vais acheter des pommes – I am going to buy some apples.
  • •    Elle va acheter des pommes- She is going to buy some apples.
  • •   Nous allons acheter des pommes – We are going to buy some apples.
  • And so on. The conjugated verb changes with the noun. In the sentences above, you can notice the change in the verb conjugated with the noun. The infinitive form of the verb is “aller” which means “to go”. This verb is conjugated with the pronoun in different ways so as to make sense. These conjugations are fixed. You cannot change them. You only have to get used to them. So, be aware of such pronouns and the correct ways to change them as the noun changes.

A French Coursework would get much easier when you learn to work with the gender, too. In french, a book (le livre) is masculine, while a car (la voiture) is feminine. We do not know why! But that’s how the language is. As stated earlier, you should just get used to it. There is a clue to find out if something is male or female; many words ending with an ‘e’ are female while the rest are male. But here also, there are certain exceptions. Certain words that do not end with an ‘e’ could also be female. For instance, “benefice” (profit) ends with an “e” but it is masculine. You must be aware of such exceptions.

Therefore, at the very basic level, all that you have to be careful about is the grammar. Later, when are proficient in grammar, you can try working on improving the beauty of the sentences that you use. So, Bonne chance with your French coursework!

English Coursework- The “Lingua Franca” of Coursework!

How to Write an English coursework…

Any coursework refers to the work assigned to and done by a student during a course of study and an English Coursework is no exception. It is amazing to realize what one can do with a language that has not more that 26 alphabets! English is the most widely spoken language in the world and for the same reason is considered the international language. Perhaps, English is the only language that can be found simple, complex, amusing and funny, all at the same time! For instance the word “live” is pronounced two ways, one way in which it is a verb and means “to survive” and the other way in which it refers to the transmission of a program or an incident through the media right when it is happening. The English language consists of such words that may seem confusing, but all the more amusing.

The English language is considered so important that it is included as a language to be learnt compulsorily in every educational institution. People learn English right from when they go to school and go on even to pursue a degree in that. What starts as a compulsory little thing for some people turns out to be their very life. It is when they learn English as a subject that people are required to write a coursework. Such a coursework is valued and constitutes almost 20% of the total marks that a person obtains. The following focuses on how to write an English Coursework.

The first rule, as in any other work is “Do not postpone!” This rule may sound stereotypical but it is essential for every work that is assigned to us. It is not very wise to keep everything for the last minute. The eleventh hour doer cannot expect to actually do anything.

It is important to take your time while working on a coursework. Prepare a “Things to do” list - a kind of synopsis of what is to be done to complete the coursework.

Understand the title of the essay paper. You can provide examples and similar instances but care should be taken not to waver from the topic. Stick to the subject.

One should be careful about the grammatical and spelling errors. Trivial spelling errors and other mistakes would not make much of an impression on the person who is evaluating your work.

Do not copy from other sources. You can quote somebody or use other sources in your coursework, but you should ensure that due credit is given to the authors. Otherwise your work will account for plagiarism and that would be the last thing you ever wanted because plagiarism is a crime.

There are not many rules, as such, to follow while writing an English Coursework, as the usage of language of differs with every individual. The way one handles the language fetches one credit. The more creative and different your work is from others, the more the points you will be awarded. You should keep your words simple and easy to understand. There must also be a flow in what you write. Also ensure that your work does not have redundancy, i.e. ensure that you do not repeat the same points in your coursework.

An effective introduction and conclusion is necessary for any research paper, this is also a key point in the essay structure with respect to essay writing. The introduction must introduce the topic. The reader comes to know of the contents of the coursework by reading the introduction.

The body of the coursework should contain the core contents and the conclusion has a summary of the key points of the coursework.

The Reference page must contain details of all the sources that were consulted for writing this coursework.

As stated earlier, there are no set rules to write an English Coursework. If there is something that can help you create your own identity, it is only your creativity and experience with English. Moreover english is also the base of writing other coursework like the psychology coursework, physics coursework, law coursework etc.

Law Coursework- Work That Will Be “Sustained”!

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

How should a Law Coursework be written?

A law coursework like any other coursework is written for assessment other than the regular examinations conducted. However writing such a coursework is not a simple task. It differs from an essay in that a coursework is longer. For instance law essays are different from coursework on law. The contents could be similar but the way it is written is different. The coursework topics could include case studies of the past, analysis of statutes, history of certain practices etc. Often students are asked to write about their own interpretation of a particular case and ways they would choose to present the case in court. This type of coursework demands a certain degree of class and professionalism. Attention to vocabulary plays a big role here in setting off the coursework from the rest.

What is expected from a law coursework?

Law is a profession where vocabulary and oratory skills play a significant role in building the career of an attorney. This not only adds the much needed touch of professionalism, but also gives the attorney an edge over his competitors. Therefore good law coursework is expected to maintain an impressive standard of English. Use of law terminology is also extremely important as the coursework is to be submitted to law professionals for assessment. A good coursework on law should be precise and incisive in its main content though the introductory paragraphs are permitted to contain related general, philosophical, psychological references. For instance, one can refer to a Psychology Coursework.  Another important aspect is the authenticity of the references and the content. Law is not a field where inaccurate information of any kind is accepted. Each and every line in the main body of the document should be authentic and should have relevant references to support it. More research into the coursework topic is always appreciated as the depth of research and writing reflects the ambition and commitment of the student. The student is expected to try and bring out his or her best in the coursework making optimum use of their skills and knowledge about the topic.

How to write a good law coursework?

A coursework is judged on many aspects which are often subjective according to the priorities of those assigned to asses the work. But there are certain things that appeal to all assessors in common.

An in depth research is always appreciated and many times it is also a requirement when the topic of the coursework specifies that.

  • •  Students are expected to make their own personal enquiries if they are assigned to analyze a legal problem. This will help them achieve good grades.
  • • A law coursework demonstrates a student’s skill for problem solving. The problem should be clearly stated and then they are expected to give their personal opinions, their proposed legislation and their take on agency rules.
  • •    Many times the student is expected to assume a hypothetical case, and asked to give a detailed description on the way they would choose to go about the case. A topic of this type will demand the student to think from the point of view of both the defendant and the prosecution. The arguments should be precise and backed with adequate evidence.
  • •    It is very important to present a coursework in a format that makes it readable and pleasing. The basic rules of formatting and spacing can be applied to the document.
  • •    Care should be taken in maintaining the professional standard of the law coursework as it is to be submitted to qualified professionals.

Chemistry Coursework- The “Acid Test” For Genius!

Friday, December 5th, 2008

What is a chemistry coursework?

A chemistry coursework is a coursework submitted by a student on the subject of chemistry. Like any other coursework it is submitted for assessment apart from the written examinations. A student of chemistry either in a graduate level or post graduate level and even a PhD level can be asked to do a coursework on the subject and the assessment marks allotted will vary accordingly. The marks allotted for the coursework is more when it comes to a higher degree where research and assignments of this nature are given priority over theory.

What should it contain?

A content of a chemistry coursework varies according to the topics chosen by the students, topics.  The depth into particular topic also varies according to the level of students who are assigned to the work. Coursework is assigned to school students also, though the level is not advanced. The topics are also kept simple and are not usually research oriented. They are however expected to present the document in a professional format. The topics for the college and university level are mostly centered on some experiments or research carried out by students, often in groups. The analysis part is the most important for the research and experiment oriented topics. The student has to specify the topic and in detail all the procedures one by one in steps and the result of the analysis. Chemistry is a subject where the students are expected to record every aspect of the experiment in a sequential order.

For example in a test for salt identification the student is expected to record firstly, the appearance of the salt i.e. everything from the smell, color, texture and even the state like a salt solution or simply the raw salt.

The next step is to perform the various tests to identify the acid radical and the basic radical. The student also has to note the reactions to each of the tests performed and should make a special mention of the test which helped the student identify the acid and basic radicals.

The final step is the confirmatory tests for the acid and basic radicals; this should also be stated in a sequential order and in the end should provide a precise and comprehensive proof for the salt identification.

A simple procedure such as this required such a detailed chronological description as every topic in chemistry and also other sciences. From this we can anticipate the depth and size of a coursework submitted by the students in the college and university levels. They are much more detailed and obviously therefore also a lengthy document.

Tips to write a good chemistry coursework

It is important to present a good coursework as it is a reflection of the student’s intelligence and passion for the subject. Therefore the student should give the coursework considerable significance as it adds up to his overall grades. Firstly, the content of of the coursework should be well thought out, like the essay plan for essays.

•    The content should be kept completely formal and factual similar to the demands of a psychology coursework and a physics coursework. Priority should be given to the facts and not much to the writing style.

•    The student should state everything in a sequential order in steps.

•    The introduction should talk about the respective theory or concept and the conclusion should sum up the procedures. In short the introduction and conclusion should be related and in a way should also reflect the writer’s thoughts like in a reflective essay.

•    Care should be taken to establish the significance of a theory and it uses in the end of the chemistry coursework.

Psychology Coursework-Psychology From a Student’s View!

What is a psychology coursework?

A coursework is normally referred to as an assignment, work or research carried out by students which contribute to their overall grade but are assessed separately from their exams. Coursework is done in myriad streams depending on the topic of study. As the name implies, a psychology coursework is a coursework on topics concerning psychology like aggression, phobias, child and criminal psychology etc. The depth and level of the work depends on the level of students who wrote it. For example a coursework on “Anti-social Behavior” will be written more in depth by a PhD student than that written by an under graduate student.

Tips to write a good psychology coursework

A good psychology coursework reflects the student’s aptitude, commitment and knowledge of the subject. Good coursework grades also adds up to the credentials which would come of handy in future when it comes to seeking employment in the field of teaching and research. The following points can be kept in mind while writing a coursework of this kind.

In -depth research in of the concerned topic is always appreciated. The more amounts of facts and referrals provided in the coursework will set a high standard for  it reflecting the professionalism and commitment of the student towards the work.

The student can also take to a descriptive style of writing. Tips on descriptive writing can be taken from a descriptive essay.

Apart from the facts and theories referred, the student should also keep in mind to provide some of his own points of view on the topic. This will show that  the student has a conscientious mind of his own and does not base his opinion entirely on borrowed theories

A coursework does not follow any particular style or format. The student can choose his own format depending on what he feels is best suited. A clear format is always preferred for any type of writing. A contents page with numbering, a neat professional font and font size will help improve the readability of the document.

A psychology coursework may be of any number of pages depending upon the requirement. Adopting a technical writing style is important as the work is presented to professors and assessed by those well qualified in the field. An easy informal easy style should be avoided in order to maintain the professionalism.

Inclusion of graphs, statistics etc is important to back your argument or theory in a coursework. Statistical evidence shows the authenticity and credibility of the work.

In case of writing a research based coursework. Keep in mind to include all the references used in the work.

Uses of a psychology coursework

A coursework is can also be treated as a research paper or a reflective essay on the basis of its accuracy and validity. Good coursework is often used as reference by psychologists and researchers in their profession.

Besides the other uses of a good coursework, it also fetches the student good assessment marks which were the very purpose for what it is written for.

The student can also take inspiration from a leadership essay to help present his coursework with an inspirational touch.

The records of good coursework is retained for references and also kept as sample coursework.

The student should always keep in mind to write his own opinions with statistical evidence and references to back it as this is the main reason why coursework is written at the first place. Also a professional and formal style has to be maintained throughout the psychology coursework.
