How to Write a 1500 Word Essay
Monday, May 3rd, 20101500 word essays are shorter than they seem
Every number than exceeds a thousand may sound like a lot. Especially, if writing is not your forté. But we can assure you that writing a 1500 word essay is not so difficult. In fact, the challenge is not filling the word count, since 1500 words may sound like a big number when in fact it is just three or four pages. That doesn’t mean the task is a piece of cake.
Sometimes students may feel than writing long essays is a real challenge, when it can actually be more difficult to write 1500 word essays and still say something meaningful and significant with no more than that certain amount of words. The problem is that, if you are only allowed to write those words and no more, you may find yourself restricted and bounded. What can you do in order to write the best possible essay following directions on word count?
Is it fundamental to constrain yourself to 1500 words?
Ok, so the first question is, why shall we respect the requested extension after all? Can’t we write 1000, or 2000 words if we prefer. No. You should try to respect the teacher’s or the examiner’s requirement, and this is why. First of all, because the extension requested is part of the task. When you are completing an essay, you should always do what the teacher asks you to do. So if you have been asked to write a certain number of words, in this case 1500, you should not extend yourself more than that. And you shouldn’t write less either, since we have already established that this essay is already quite short.
Organize clearly your sketch
When working on short essays, as well as on every essay writing, you should always begin your work by organizing yourself with a sketch. In essays with a limited number of words –like yours- this rough draft should be brief and clear: introduction, hypothesis, two or three paragraphs for development and a conclusion. Go straight to the point and do not waste your time with long introductions. In a 1500 word essay you must go straight to the main hypothesis.
Limit the essay quotes
We know quoting is very important in any assignment writing. But with 1500 word essays you should keep literal quotes to a minimum. It is better to mention the title of a certain book and then give a general idea of what the author says than actually filling half a page with a long paragraph extracted from the book itself. Of course, you should never forget mentioning the author, since quoting other writer’s ideas as your own counts as plagiarism, which will be –when discovered- severely punished.
If after a long time trying to write you find out you are sending page after page to the paper basket, then maybe you should consider buying a custom made essay, written especially for you and always delivered right on time, impossible for the teacher to spot as nothing else than your own work.
