George Orwell
He was one of Britain’s most important writers of the 20th century. Voltaire
His real name was François-Marie Arouet, but he’s better known by his pen name. He was an 18th century French philosopher and essayist, famous for his wit and his ideas about civil liberties. He is considered one of the main influencers on the French Revolution, among with other Enlightenment figures as Rousseau, Montesquieu and John Locke.
Bertrand Russell
Born in Wales in 1872, he was a British philosopher, historian, logician, mathematician, socialist and social critic. Pacifist, anti-war activist and a huge critic of imperialism and totalitarism, Russell was awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 thanks to his varied and significant writings where he transmitted his ideals of freedom and humanitarian values to all human kind.
Winston Churchill
The only British Prime Minister who was ever given a Nobel Prize in Literature (which happened in 1953) and the first person that was recognized as an Honorary Citizen of the United States, Winston Churchill is better known as a politician than as a writer. He lead the United Kingdom during the hard times of World War II. But he also was a famous writer, artist and historian.
